Can we serve you? November 3, 2008

As I was driving to school this morning I realized I never serve anyone. I don’t help anyone out. I don’t “love.” This man is the most selfless, giving, loving, helping person besides Jesus I know and I can’t even begin to touch what this guy does. The Bible is full of instances where Jesus, and the diciples, helped and gave. Galatians 5:13 tells us:
13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
In these times of economic dispair for many of us we don’t have money to give but we have so much more. In Acts 3 Peter doesn’t have any silver or gold for a beggar but he gives him what he does have and heals him. I haven’t been able to heal anyone but I can love them. I can give up my extra time to serve not only my friends but my community. I can use what is in my hands. I’m motivated just by writing this. Are you?

Desensitized October 28, 2008

I was grilling some delicious turkey burgers for my wife and 2 girls today when I realized…how AWESOME God is. I have been desensitized to the small things. I took for granted all the many blessings that God has given me. It makes me excited and keeps me on fire to see and recognize all the small things that God has done for me. Are there small things in your life that God has given you that maybe you don’t think about or credit Him for?
6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

I am making a call for twittering. Everyone who reads this should have a twitter by the end of the week.
16 I will lead blind Israel down a new path,
guiding them along an unfamiliar way.
I will brighten the darkness before them
and smooth out the road ahead of them.
Yes, I will indeed do these things;
I will not forsake them.

I have started to gut out my old Epiphone ‘56 Goldtop and am in the process of restoring it maybe. I will take pictures and such along the way. New pots, new pickups, new tuning machines, maybe a bigsby? This thing is gonna be a beast. I’m going to be puting more money into it than I paid for but it’ll be nice in the end.
Prayer Meetings October 22, 2008

We had a meeting first thing this morning to go over the things that are to be done this afternoon. It lasted a good bit and was pretty informative. As we closed up our meeting I was prepared for a prayer….It did not occur to me that I was at work at school and not at church. I wanted to ask God to not only bless the things we did today but to guide and direct our actions. I did. But not publicly. I thought about what it would’ve been like if I started praying in public with the 10-12 people in the room. Would they have bowed their heads in respect? Would someone have stopped me? Would someone laugh? Interesting to think about…
God’s Promise for today:
I love these verses:
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
God will provide, no need to stress over the things we need and no need to want the things we don’t.

What is your foundation? October 18, 2008

When I was a teenager I was one of the most hypocritical people you could ever know. I sometimes went to church but not a whole lot. You would never know that I was a Christian if you watched me or if you talked to me 90% of the time. Even so, I always claimed Christ and considered myself a pretty good Christian. I wasn’t killing anybody!!!! However, This isn’t the relationship Jesus really wants with us. He wants an intimate relationship. He doesn’t want us to just call on his name when we need him or when it is opportune for us to. Luke 6:46 says this:
So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?
If Jesus is Lord of our lives why don’t we live for him or treat Him as our Lord?
Another verse that convicts me on this issue is actually my wife’s favorite verse:
Such people claim they know God, but they deny him by the way they live. They are detestable and disobedient, worthless for doing anything good.
Would this apply to you as it did for me when I was a teenager?
Here is your promise from God this time:
God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

God promised us many many things in the Bible. I want to be a reminder to you guys of the things God has promised so from now on I will post a verse from the Bible that contains a promise from God. I got this idea from Shannon who is listing things she is thankful for.
First one ever:
1 John 5:4-5
4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 5 And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
We have the ability to overcome and this ability comes from Jesus as promised by God in this verse.
